DIABETES
CENTER GRANTED IDF RECOGNITION
The
Philippine Center for Diabetes Education Foundation, Inc. or better
known as the Diabetes Center was granted recognition from the International
Diabetes Federation Consultative Section on Diabetes Education (DECS).
As of this date, the annual Intensive Training Course for Diabetes
Educators conducted by the Center has been recognized to be in compliance
with the standards set by the DECS.
The major objective of the DECS is to improve the knowledge of health
professionals, policy makers and the community, in order to improve
the management and education of people with diabetes.
The training course, open to doctors, nurses and dietitians provides
an overview of the treatment and educational methods culled from
various prestigious institutions. It is being conducted by the Medical
Bureau of the Center - mostly trained in renowned Center of Europe
and the Americas, namely: Mary Ann Lim-Abrahan, M.D., Laura Trajano-Acampanado,
M.D., Lina Lantion-Ang, M.D., Thelma Dimalanta-Crisostomo, M.D.,
Susan Yu-Gan, M.D., Ruby Go, M.D., Cynthia Chua-Ho, M.D., Augusto
Litonjua, M.D., Cynthia Halili-Manabat, M.D., Roberto G. Mirasol,
M.D., Elizabeth Paz-Pacheco, M.D., Josephine Carlos-Raboca, M.D.,
May Ortiz-Sison, M.D., Tommy Ty Willin, M.D., Rosa Allyn Sy, M.D.
and Mrs. Susan Bernal-Trinidad.
One specific requirement for acceptance into this week long course
is that the participants should render service to their community/
province for 5 years. And they should assist in the setting up of
a diabetes educational clinic in their locality.
